Monument record 5411/0/3 - Possible Ditched Enclosure & Boundary Ditch

Geophysical survey identified a series of anomalies of possible archaeological origin, although subsequent trial trench excavation found no archaeological features. The anomalies are likely to have been geological in origin.

{1} An area of anomalies indicating isolated readings as well as a single linear anomaly. Their nature and extent cannot be determined at this stage but may denote ditches and associated features.

{2} A sub circular anomaly possibly demoting a small ditched enclosure. Extending from this enclosure are two linear anomalies, one to the east and one to the west, possibly indicating ditches which may in fact form a boundary ditch.

{3} Trench 44 was positioned to investigate a series of cropmarks thought to represent enclosures. No archaeological features were encountered in the trench. The natural geology across this area comprised mixed iron rich sand and sandy limestone that may have accounted for the dappled appearance of the cropmarks.
