Full Description

{1} Built in the early 19th century by the Fitzgerald family.

{2} Bankruptcy of Captain George Ashby.

{3} Area of old enclosures, fieldname: The Park.

{4} Amid the peaceful charm of its groves and shrubberies - will not easily persuade himself - that it was but a very few years before a sterile morass.

{5} 80 acres of shrubs, lakes and gardens.

{8} John Fitzgerald built Naseby Wooleys on newly enclosed land in the west of the parish. In 1823 he erected a monument to The Battle of Naseby, an obelisk placed on the highest ground in the parish, on an old windmill mound. The obelisk was meant to be seen from a distance as a landscape feature. As such The Obelisk could be seen as an eyecatcher, an extension of the gardens of The Wooleys.

{9} Not marked by T. Eyre.

{10} Small area of tree planting is suggested in 1817.

{11} Small park or garden is indicated with associated buildings.
