Full Description

{1} Soilmarks of ditches recorded in 1982. NCCAP:SP9183/029-30.

{2} Geophysical survey identified a probable enclosed settlement and trial trench excavation confirmed the presence of a large ditch which appeared to enclose the remaining features.

{3} Geophysical survey found evidence features may be indicative of settlement activity. In AAA8, four ring ditches and two further ring ditches that were partially enclosed by a curvilinear ditch. The complete ring ditches vary in size from 10m to 23m in diameter and are not previously known. In AAA7, the survey found evidence for a large rectilinear enclosure measuring approximately 230m x 140m oriented on a north-east/south-west alignment. Evidence of internal features remain difficult to discern except for linear and curvilinear responses, likely ditches and a small area. A small ring ditch approx 7m in diameter, possible square enclosure and discrete anomalies were also identified. In AAA3, an enclosure was identified in the survey measuring 60m x 95m oriented north-west/south-east. Inside the enclosure, there was a small ring ditch approx 9m in diameter and a short ditch parallel to the long sides of the enclosure. In AAA6, immediately to the west of the watercourse, is a small rectangular encosure approx 22m x 20m oriented south-east/north-west along with linear anomalies. Discontinuous linear anomalies surround the enclosure to the west may represent a wider pattern of enclosure. Two isolated strong anomalies on the south-east side of the enclosure are indicative of areas of burning or kilns.
