Summary

Cropmarks and finds suggest a settlement covering 50 hectares. An enclosure, ditches and gullies have been found with 2nd to 4th century pottery, querns, flue and roof tiles and animal bones. [see individual records for details]

Full Description

{1} Features and finds associated with cropmarks; numerous scattered Romano-British features and finds recovered during development of the Beanfield Estate in the late 1950s. This may represent one large settlement.

{2} Evidence of a Roman settlement on the Beanfield Estate (Corby New town), accumulating over an area of half a mile square. The late R Cross has left notes, drawings and pottery with Corby Archaeol Soc.

{8} The area of these finds is now part of Corby New Town - the Beanfield Estate; nothing of significence was seen in the area. The quern-stone and c. 50. potsherds are in Mr Seaborne's possession {4}.

{9} Watching brief undertaken during the development of the estate identified a road extending northwards from the area of Roman activity to Gartree Road. It was believed to be Roman, but no further detail provided. [Plan]
