Summary

Extensive cropmarks of a ditched trackway, enclosures and Roman pottery suggest a settlement. Early Saxon pottery has been found on the site, which may also indicate a settlement of that date.

Full Description

{1} Roman Settlement (?) (SP 745793), 500m SW of (6) on Boulder Clay at 152m above OD. Roman pottery has been found and air photographs (not seen by RCHM) are said to show cropmarks of a settlement. Saxon Settlement (?) (SP 745793), found on the Roman settlement. Early Saxon pottery has been discovered.

{2} (SP 742791). Possible ditches on AP in 1982.

{3} Cropmarks of an Iron Age and Romano-British "nucleated settlement".

{4} Cropmarks: an indistinct possible enclosure, appended to 2 parallel ditches. Other linear features are also present, some modern and some possibly archaeological.

{5} Roman Settlement (SP 745793). The reported cropmarks are now known to cover about 20 hectares and though very indistinct, include a ditched trackway running NE-SW (SP 748795) and a group of irregular enclosures (SP 744794).
