Monument record 4373 - Prehistoric Settlement, east of Rectory Farm

Summary
Cropmarks of a double-ditched rectangular enclosure with an entrance on the north-west side identified on aerial photography. Inside the enclosure are three probable roundhouse ring ditches and internal ditched divisions. Further boundaries are visible outside the enclosure and a rectilinear field system has been identified to the north.

Full Description
{1} Geophysical survey revealed only one anomaly - linear north-east facing feature (also identifiable on aerial photography). Metal detecting survey revealed both ferrous and non-ferrous objects.
{2} Geophysics and watching brief on the site - identified cropmark anomaly as a SW to NE alignment as a water pipe of modern date, although the area investigated lay some way to the south of the main area of cropmarks.
{3} CMK OF RECT FIELD SYSTEM & DOUBLE-DITCHED RECT ENCLOSURE CONTAINING RING DITCHES & PITS; VARIOUS OTHER MINOR INTERNAL DITCHES ETC; G.FOARD (30/10/1979).
