Full Description

{1} Quarry owners: from 1866 Glendon Iron Co., from 23rd June 1886 Glendon Iron Co.Ltd., from 1901 Charles Barlow, from circa 1920 Harold Barlow, from 3rd April 1936 Richard Thomas & Co.Ltd., and from 3rd January 1945 Richard Thomas & Baldwins Ltd, until closure on 23rd May 1946.
Finedon quarries were operated in three separate and distinct phases with time lapses between them, by different companies with different policies and operating methods. Apart from the common site there was little physical association between the three.
As well as ironstone, quarrying activities included limestone extraction (north-east of Finedon) and brickearth (north-west of Finedon close to the River Ise), the latter was made into bricks on-site.
