Abstract/Summary

A building recording programme was undertaken by TR Projects prior to the refurbishment of two barns situated in the farmyard at the rear of 73 High Street, Bugbrooke. The earliest phase of building that survived was a monolithic earth boundary wall sections of which were subsequently adapted to serve as a structural wall in two separate buildings, one being an 18th century barn built of ironstone, the other a 19th century implement shed built of brick. It was not possible to offer and actual date of construction for the mud walled sections of the Barns but documentary evidence confirming the existence of the larger barn at the time of the Bugbrooke Enclosure Award (1779), provided a useful terminus post quem for this feature which represented the earliest fabric identified in the barns.
