Abstract/Summary

Detailed magnetic gradiometer survey was undertaken for Lark Energy Ltd in connection with proposed development on land at Hanslope Road, Hartwell, Northamtonshire. An initial phase of survey, comprising c.12ha in four separate blocks (Areas A-D), identified anomalies of enclosures in one of the areas. The irregular form of these enclosures suggested they are of prehistoric date. As a result, further survey was undertaken near to the enclosures in an attempt to identify possible associated features. This fifth block (Area E) amounted to approximately 3ha and, hence, the total survey extends to c.15ha in five separate blocks (Areas A-E). Within the new survey area (Area E), several linear features were recorded. Most of these can be identified with removed field boundaries whose existence was recorded on late 19th and 20th century maps. No features that can convincingly be related to the enclosures were recorded in the new survey area.
