SNN110595 - An Archaeological Standing Building Survey & Rapid Building Appraisal of 35 & 37 West Street, Easton on the Hill, Northamptonshire, 2015

This document is an archaeological standing building survey of 37 West Street, Easton on the Hill, Northamptonshire (TF 01034 04461), commissioned from Archaeological Building Recording Services (ABRS) by Lottie Smith Architectural Services in advance of the proposed conservation of the house and outbuildings and the conversion of the front barn to residential use. 37 East Street and its associated outbuildings are an interesting group of buildings. The outbuildings represent the historic land use, having been used as a market garden for almost 150 years, the property having remained in the ownership of the same family for potentially several hundred years. Physically, the outbuildings are stone-built and mainly 18th and 19th century in date. The northernmost frontage outbuilding contains sufficient evidence to suggest it originated as a domestic building, possibly in the early 17th century. The domestic building of number 37 has a more complicated history, the house is Grade II listed and described as being 17th century and re-modelled in the 19th century. Sufficient evidence to support this was observed by the historic building recording but a number of ambiguities of plan hint at a potentially more complex and potentially longer history. The archive will be retained by ABRS under the temporary site code 2014-WSEN until deposition with Northamptonshire County Council can be arranged. Following the completion of the histroic building recording of No. 37 West Street, ABRS was commisioned to carry out a rapid building apprasial of No. 35 West Street, an adjoining property to the south of No. 37.
