Abstract/Summary

In February to March 2018 MOLA was commissioned by Roundhill, Northampton Ltd to carry out the second phase of the archaeological trial trench evaluation on land at Overstone Grange Farm, Moulton, Northamptonshire in advance of residential development (to be known as Moulton Heights). Fifty-five trenches were excavated to investigate both geophysical anomalies and potential blank areas identified in the previous geophysical survey. Archaeological features comprising predominantly ditches and pits were encountered in thirty-four trenches. The features were mainly boundary and enclosure ditches related to prehistoric and Roman archaeological sites identified during the geophysical survey. A barrow ditch likely to date to the Bronze Age was also identified. A small assemblage of prehistoric and Roman pottery has been recovered from a low number of features. The presence of a post-medieval drainage system (herringbone ditches) was also recorded in the south-western corner of the evaluated area.
