Abstract/Summary

Pre-Develop Archaeology commissioned Allen Archaeology to undertake a geophysical survey using magnetometry on land off Harborough Road, Desborough to help inform a future planning application for a new car park area and an extension to the factory immediately to the south east of the site. The site lies within an area of agricultural activity in the medieval period, with limited evidence for earlier archaeological activity, other than potential Roman activity to the west. The survey has revealed archaeological features likely dating to the Iron Age, with at least three ring ditches identified and a long linear boundary feature immediately to the north of them. The survey has also identified ridge and furrow cultivation across most of the site, indicating that the site lay in an agricultural zone in the medieval to post-medieval periods. Modern feaures, including a buried service, a former pylon base and magnetic noise relating to a former field boundary, have also been identified.
