Monument record 5611/1 - Probable Iron Age settlement, north-east of Harborough Road

Geophysical survey has identified probable Iron Age settlement comprising at least three roundhouse ring ditches and a long linear boundary ditch to the north.

{1} Geophysical survey identified a series of archaeological features that are likely to date to the Iron Age. These comprise at least three round house ring ditches and a long, linear boundary to the north.

{2} Trial trenching identified an array of features comprising possible Prehistoric pits, ditches, wall-trenches, palisade-trenches, ring ditches, a hearth and post holes, and possible Roman parallel bedding trenches (Pastinatio) forming part of a vineyard. The Iron Age features suggest bounded habitiation in the form of a settlement. There does not appear to be any Roman occupation of the immediate area.
