Abstract/Summary
Groundworks Archaeology was commissioned by Ms Sian Thomas undertake a level 2 historic building survey the former Methodist chapel on Townsend Lane, Upper Boddington, Northamptonshire. (NGR SP 48064 53601). This was undertaken in response to a planning condition for conversion to a dwelling (S/2020/1745/FUL). This assessment included a photographic survey as well as field notes and annotations and amendments to existing architects' drawings. Evidence for structural alterations and changes in fabric were recorded in order to determine a sequence of historic development. The structure is of two main phases, the original chapel built in 1865 and the later schoolroom added in 1885. The chapel porch was added prior to 1899 (when it appears on the OS 2nd edition map) and is likely to have been built at a similar time to the schoolroom as it shares many of the same decorative features. Although the chapel had been entirely stripped out the schoolroom had survived intact.
