Abstract/Summary

An archaeological watching brief (Observation, Investigation, Recording, Analysis and Publication) was carried out during ground reductions for new dwellings and the foundation trench of a new boundary wall at The Elms, 1 Millway, Duston. A ditch containing several sherds of 10th-14th century pottery was recorded on the south-western boundary of the site. The significant depths of plough soil within the site suggest it was part of the open field in the medieval period and that the boundary marked the edge of a domestic property to the south. The work also revealed several post-medieval features associated with the former garden and orchard at The Elms.
