Abstract/Summary
Enclosure, the process by which land held in common was converted to private property is usually considered in the context of enclosure by Act of Parliament. While Northamptonshire was na early implementer of enclosure by Act of Pariament this Northamptonshire Record Society volume clearly illustrates that enclosure was an ongoing process that commenced when the early medieval landscape was created. Within the archives in Northampton and elesewhere there is an excellent amount of material showing how through enclosure and changes in agriculture the landscape of the county changed over time.
