Abstract/Summary

MOLA completed a trial trench evaluation totalling 241 trenches between September and December 2024 on the land surrounding Nunnery Farm, Rothwell, Northamptonshire. The archaeological evaluation identified three separate large enclosure systems along the top of the valley and several smaller outlying archaeological features including ring ditches. These enclosure systems have been dated to the Iron Age to Roman period and internally contained roundhouses and internal divisions as well as large numbers of pits and postholes. Evidence of surface quarrying was detected on the slope of the valley, while medieval to early post-medieval ridge and furrow was present in all fields.
