Monument record 5847 - Two isolated Late Iron Age/Early Roman enclosures , north of A14

Cropmarks of an undated enclosure identified on aerial photographs. Geophysical survey detected anomalies that comprise not well defined ditches, including two ring ditches, and pitting. Most likely date to the Iron Age/Roman period. Trial trench evaluation found evidence of two enclosures.

{2} Geophysical survey identified evidence for archaeological features. These are not as well defined as the main sites covered by the survey. Several ditches, including two ring ditches, and pitting in the form of storage pits and post holes were detected. Most likely date to the Iron Age or Roman period based on their composition.

{3} The trial trench found evidence of archaeological features dating from the Late Iron Age to the early Roman period, supporting the results of the previous geophysical survey. A sub-circular enclosure and a sub-square enclosure was identified. These features appear to be isolated from the main activity within Area 5 (Pref Ref: 8758) but could be related to a wider archaeological landscape not seen by this evaluation.
