Abstract/Summary
A programme of archaeological evaluation excavation (targeted trial trenching) was carried out between October and November 2021 as part of predetermination works requested by the North Northamptonshire County Council’s planning archaeologist, Liz Mordue, to inform decisions on a planning application for the proposed extension of the VPK Factory, Harborough Road, Desborough, Northamptonshire, NN14 2SR. An array of features was found comprising possible Prehistoric pits, ditches, wall-trenches, palisade-trenches, ring ditches, a hearth and post holes, and possible Roman parallel bedding trenches (Pastinatio) forming part of a vineyard, and Medieval/post-Medieval agricultural features (ridge and furrow) with associated finds of prehistoric saddle, quern fragments, Hone stones, and pottery, and post-medieval pottery.
