Title 19 Herne Road Oundle North Northamptonshire: Geophysical survey
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2026

Abstract/Summary

In February 2026, Cotswold Archaeology carried out a geophysical survey of land at 19 Herne Road, Oundle, North Northamptonshire. A total area of 0.28ha was surveyed using Bartington Grad 601‑2 dual fluxgate gradiometers. The survey detected a range of magnetic anomalies, which have been classified as archaeological, modern and undetermined in origin. Three potential archaeological features were identified. These anomalies are most likely associated with former field systems, although the presence of small enclosures cannot be ruled out. In addition, two undetermined anomalies were recorded whose origin could not be confidently interpreted. The survey results were significantly affected by modern sources of magnetic disturbance, including parked vehicles, ferrous boundary materials, and ferrous debris within the topsoil. These strong magnetic responses created areas of interference that may have masked or distorted minor archaeological features within those zones
