SNN117197 - Fawsley Hall Hotel Fawsley, Northamptonshire New Foul Drainage Pipe-Line: Archaeological Topographical Survey

In November 2025 an archaeological topographical survey was undertaken within the Grade II*- listed historic park at Fawsley Hall, near Daventry, Northamptonshire, in advance of construction of a pumped foul water pipeline. The survey took place in three zones of which contain earthworks of archaeological interest: the postulated site of the medieval settlement of Fawsley; a post-medieval water-management feature; and medieval cultivation earthworks. The purpose of the survey was threefold: to obtain an accurate measured record of the portion of earthworks that would suffer loss or alteration during the construction programme; to provide survey data to assist in post-construction ‘re-instatement’ of historic earthworks, to maintain their aesthetic appearance; and to inform a programme of archaeological monitoring and investigation along the route. The earthworks were surveyed to Ordnance Survey National Grid co-ordinates and orthometric heights using RTK Differential GNSS. The report outlines the historical context of the earthwork sites and provides an illustrative account of the earthworks supported by digital photographs. The digital survey data was supplied to the construction engineers to inform the detailed design process prior to construction groundwork.
