Abstract/Summary

The gradiometer survey has successfully located the ring ditch presumed to be the remains of a Bronze Age barrow. A central pit suggested by the aerial photograph has been detected. A number of linear anomalies were also detected. The broad irregular nature of these magnetic responses suggests that they are not of archaeological interest; it is presumed that they have been produced by subsurface variations in the underlying bedrock. However, a number of strong pit/hearth type anomalies have been recorded within and adjacent to these linear responses. Given the evidence of Roman iron working in the immediate area, it is possible that these anomalies, and the other weaker responses recorded by the gradiometer, are of archaeological interest.
