Description

{1} Watching brief during excavation of geotechnical trial pits at The Former Tannery, Wellington Road for proposed residential redevelopment of the site. 20 trial pits were excavated revealing extensive hydrocarbon contamination and deep made ground. A fuel tank and cast iron pipe possibly relating to the former gasworks or tannery were noted. With these exceptions no artefactual or structural archaeological evidence relating to the gasworks or any earlier activity was observed.
