Description

A total of thirty-five trial trenches were excavated, targeting geophysical anomalies. A series of features including enclosures, land boundaries, pits and postholes were discovered, dating from the mid Iron Age through to the 2nd century AD. The evaluation largely confirmed the results of the earlier geophysical survey, indicating that the interpretation of the geophysical anomalies had been very accurate with regard to linear features. A number of discrete features (such as pits) were identified during the trial trenching, but had not been highlighted by the geophysical interpretation.
