Description
Area A produced the densest complex of archaeological remains. Several phases of Roman occupation were evidently present, representing the edge of the large settlement located further up the slope to the south-west. The pottery evidence indicates that activity may have begun during the late 1st/early 2nd century and continued into the 4th century. These features were partially covered by a layer of colluvium which contained a small number of Roman artefacts that may have been washed down from the settlement whilst it was still in use or after.
