Monument record 1842/15 - Peace Memorial Park, Huntingdon Road

The Peace Memorial Park was created by the Peace Memorial Committee in 1920 to provide a memorial to the 1914-18 war.

{1} Peace Memorial Park, established in a field, formerly known as Kiln Close, purchased by the Peace Memorial Committee in 1920 to provide a memorial to the 1914-18 war.

{2} The trees depicted on the 1782 map would suggest that the absence of buildings is a result of direct clearance for the laying out of a formal garden for Thrapston House which lies immediately opposite on the north side of the road.

{4} A stone-lined well was found during works to improve the facilities at the park (c SP 998785). The well was 4.5m deep and 0.5m wide. There was still water at the base. A pump is marked in this location on early Ordnance Survey maps indicating that it is probably of 19th-century origin.
