Full Description
{1} House, formerly rectory. C18 with C19 alterations. Coursed squared limestone with sandstone dressings, some brick to side and rear; slate roof, various brick stacks. 2 storeys and attic; 3-window range. Entrance front has central part-glazed door in stone gabled porch. 12-pane Gothick sashes throughout with stone sills, jambs, lintels and thin hood-moulds. First floor storey band, stone eaves, hipped roof. 2-storey canted bays to right and left sides, the latter with upper storey of white brick. That to right stands on a high base above the road on that side and has an iron balcony. Base wall to road side incorporates a possible Romanesque impost with herringbone-moulding. Later C19 extensions to rear. Interior has late C18 staircase with turned balusters.
{3} Wyndham House and the former coach house that lies within its grounds are of 18th century date. Wyndham House was formerly the rectory and was built to replace the old rectory now known as the Dower House. The house was subject to alterations during the 19th and 20th centuries. During the Second World War the house was used as a school for army padres. A small well and a brick-built domed structure, tentatively interpreted as an ice house, are located close-by on the southern side of the new extension.
The cellars at Wyndham House are comprised of two brick-built vaulted bays. Photos.
