{5} Archaeological watching brief was undertaken and found no features of archaeological interest. The renovation works to the building were observed following the removal of plaster and other features in order to identify previously unseen historic fabric. Little was revealed that was unexpected and no new evidence could be seen of any earlier phase of the building. The removal of surface fabric from both exterior and interior of the building revealed little by way of unexpected historic fabric. Nonetheless, some historic features of interest were exposed, such as the timber window lintels to the south, and previously unseen sections of stone wall beneath the plaster on the first floor. Additionally, the creation of the new doorway to the north provided a cross section to view the construction of the ironstone wall. The building appeared to have changed very little over the last two centuries. The main change was the cementitious repairs and repointing, no doubt added in the 20th century. Although the building dates to 1690, it was extensively rebuilt in the 19th century, an event to which much of the remaining historic fabric can be attributed. The current renovation project did not necessitate the extensive exposure of historic fabric and, as a result, no new surviving evidence of the structure’s original incarnation could be identified.
