Full Description

{1} Water tower. C.1904. Red, yellow and blue polychrome brickwork with lead and plain-tile roof. Octagonal tower of 5 stages. Pairs of cast-iron windows with shallow arch heads to alternate faces of lower stage and similar single-windows to next 3 stages with tall arch head surrounds. Upper stage is corbelled out with central window to each face surrounded by blank arcading. Large square buttresses at corners terminating as short square pinnacles. Decorative parapet, roof not visible. Elevation to road has 2-storey gabled porch with plain-tile roof. Large arch head entrance with glazed doors has 3 square head windows above and gabled parapet. Interior not inspected.

{3} Five storey octagonal brick water tower, constructed in 1904. The buttresses at each corner, the corbels below the fifth storey, the surrounds to the cast iron window frames, the parapet and the tier of Romanesque arches immediately beneath it are of red brick, with the intervening walls of courses of red and courses of cream brick. The two storey entrance porch is mainly of blue brick, with a pitched roof. Following intensive internal work since 1980, the building is now a private dwelling.

{4} Waterworks, Irthlingborough Road. Finedon Water Tower Urban District Council waterworks. Octagonal tower, highly decorative with use of red, blue and cream bricks. The building has a small protruding front porch. The structure is still in some form of usage, but as what? Waterworks? Industrial? Film ? Photo 17, 18.
