Full Description

{1} Manor House. Probably early C17 remodelled late C17. Ironstone ashlar with rendered plinth and plain-tile roof. L-shaped plan. 2 storeys with attic. Main front of 2-window range of C19 casements in original openings. Ground floor windows have flat stone arches with moulded cornice over; first floor windows have wood lintels. Early C19 central door has moulded wood doorcase and fanlight with glazing bars. Central half dormer has ashlar parapets and finial. 2 roof dormers have C19 bargeboards. Ashlar gable parapets and kneelers with finials. Pairs of early C19 octagonal brick stacks at ends. Blank shield above entrance. Interior not inspected but reputed to contain evidence of a central carriage arch. Probably built as a Stewards House for Sir Christopher Hatton's estate. Castellated ironstone wall attached to north has a blocked opening with 4-centred head.

{5} At some time following the division of the manor in 1616 a new manor house was constructed on the north west side of Broad Green. Construction may have been soon after 1616 for the listed building is described as probably of the early 17th century, remodelled in the late 17th century. It is a modest house and it has been suggested that it was probably built as a steward's house for the Hatton estate. It is unclear whether the manor house was built on a new site, from land previously peasant tenements or whether it had been the site of one of the lesser manors which had come into Hatton ownership in the late 16th century. A large Hall was built adjacent in 1783, now known as Hatton Hall.
