Full Description

{1} Stables now outbuildings. Mid C18 for Ecton Hall Estate. Regular coursed ironstone and lias with slate roof. Originally probably range of 3 stables with haylofts over. 5-window range at ground floor of horizontal sliding sashes with glazing bars under wood lintels. Three C19 and C20 doors between windows also under wood lintels. First floor plank door to far right has flight of stone steps and is flanked by 2 horizontal sliding sashes. Ashlar gable parapets and kneelers.

{3} The stables associated with Ecton Hall were erected in the mid 18th century. The building originally comprised a range of three stables with haylofts over. The building is located on a nort-south alignment and shares a courtyard with the coach house and Ecton estate office. There are three irregularly spaced ground floor doord on the east face of the building and five windows. The doorways presumably provided access to the stables. At the northern most end of the building there is a first floor door accessed by an external stone staircase; the doorway is flanked by a window on either side. It is uncertain what this first floor area was used for. There is just one first floor window at the north end of the west face of the building. There is a small fireplace in the north west corner of the building at ground floor level, the flue goes through the interior of the building, but there is no fireplace at first floor level.

{4} A new stable, which still survives and is dated 1712, was constructed as part of a courtyard arrangement immediately north-west of the Hall. This had been moved to enable the laying out of formal gardens.
