Full Description

{1} Country house. Late C17 and early C18. Lias ashlar and regular coursed limestone with plain-tile roof. Double-depth plan. 2 storeys with attic. Entrance front of 5-window range. Part-glazed double doors are slightly to left of centre set in Gibbs surround with pediment over. Sash windows with glazing bars under gauged stone heads. Rusticated quoins. Moulded stone cornice and 3 hipped roof dormers with casement windows. Ashlar gable parapets and rendered stacks at ends. Rear has late C19 wing attached to right and central C18 stucco projection. Interior: entrance hall has staircase with mid C18 balustrades probably reset.

Set back from the road and facing South-East. Late C17, 2 storey sandstone house with steep early tiled roof, flat verges, moulded stone eaves. Chimney stacks on gables. Chamfered quoins, slight plinth. Main front 3 hipped dormers, 5 windows spaced 2:1:2. The front is not exactly symmetrical the middle openings being slight off centre. (This compensates for the angle at which the house is set to the road). Windows are sash in wide wooden cases, plain reveals flat arched heads and plain cills. Rusticated stone doorcase with triangular pediment. At entrance to grounds, east of house, are 2 rusticated gatepiers with small finials.
