Full Description

{1} Glapthorn was a chapelry in Cotterstock parish until the 19th century. The manorial history is complicated, in part because of the intermixing of property between Glapthorn and Cotterstock. In 1086 two men-at-arms held manors at Cotterstock from the abbot of Peterborough. One of the manors was acquired by John Giffard in 1336 for the foundation of a college of priests in 1338, becoming the Provost's manor. Cotterstock was always a small village and has a simple double-row plan, set on either side of the road. The tenements are very short, possibly implying an origin as infill on an early drove.
