Full Description

{1} Four trenches were excavated prior to development in 1999. A small group of featrues comprising a ditch, two gullies, and two postholes were found. The ditch and one of the gullies produced single sherds of medieval pottery perhaps suggesting limited activity during that period.

{3} Excavation of the area evaluated was undertaken in 2002. The ditch observed during the evaluation was identified. It appeared to have been backfilled shortly after it had been excavated. Nine sherds of medieval pottery were recovered from the sections. Large pieces of modern brick and 19th century earthenware were also recovered. The absence of plastic suggests a date from the early 20th century. Other features were a shallow depression characterised by a concentration of large stone which produced a single sherd of Stamford Ware. A patch of burnt subsoil containing brick fragments was observed and a small rectangular feature with a single fill containing much charcoal.
A single, unstratified flint scraper was recovered, probably dating to the late Neolithic to early Bronze Age.
