Full Description

{2} A small yard on the south side of Kelmarsh Station, working at about the turn of the century. There was no siding to the works.

{3} They are not shown on the 1864 plan but on the 1900 OS 6 in map they appear as a large brick pit and buildings and named Brick Works. The buildings have now gone and much of the pit has been filled in. However, within the south-eastern half of the north-east compartment of Langborough Wood are many pits and spoil heaps that cut through earlier ridge-and-furrow, which must be an extension of the original brick works. Nothing is known of these works. They may have belonged to the LNWR Company and have been used to produce bricks for the lining of Kelmarsh tunnel as well as for bridges and culverts during the construction of the railway. Alternatively they may have been a later private enterprise making use of the railway to transport the bricks.
