Type and Period (2)

Full Description

{1} Field name: Lime Kiln Close

{3} Baker states that "in the south part of the field are 2 or 3 small lime kilns."

{5} Field name: Lime Kiln Close but shows no buildings or kilns.

{7} 'Lime kiln' marked on map;

{8} An area of potential quarrying activity was identified south-west of Fleetland Farm during an initial walkover survey and further evidenced by observed areas of ground disturbance within two trial trenches. Within the immediate area is a feature labelled on the First Edition Ordnance Survey Map of 1886 as ‘Limekiln’, but subsequently recorded only as an earthwork. This may indicate that the quarrying
was to supply material for the lime kiln.
