Type and Period (1)

Full Description

{1} A rectangular raised earthwork, comprised of a large dump of redeposited natural. It is not clear where the soil came from as there are no obvious signs of quarrying in the area. No finds were recovered. It is thought that the mound may have been constructed as a building platform for a structure but the evidence for this is poor.

{2} The excavated platform comprised a sequence of layers, dated by pottery to the early 12th century.
