Full Description

{1} A series of short, parallel positive linear anomalies orientated south-west to north-east, and also three perpendicular anomalies. Although of ditch-form, no firm attribution can be made of what features this group of anomalies may represent. Discrete, positively magnetised pit-type anomalies were identified on the south-west side of the group.

{2} Ditches and gullies in trenches 64, 67, 86, 89, 91, 92 and 93. Many of the ditches were not seen in the geophysical survey, perhaps due to the underlying clays making the identification of anomalies difficult. Mainly the ditches were aligned south-west to north-east or perpendicular this. They ranged from 0.3m to 1m wide and up to 0.3m deep and generally had U- shaped profiles.

{3} Excavation of the northern roundabout area identified a ditch aligned north-east by south-west. No finds were recovered, although it was aligned parallel to the road. To the south-west of the site a palaeochannel was recorded crossing the area on a north-west to south-east alignment. It was around 16m wide.
