Full Description

{1} A pair of positive linear, ditch, anomalies are aligned south-west to north-east through the eastern half of the field. No readily apparent function can be attributed to them. Several discrete anomalies, possible pits, were located to the east and west of the ditches.

{2} The south-eastern ditch was up to 1.95m wide by 0.4m deep. The north-western ditch was up to 0.5m wide and 0.45m deep. Its fill was cut by a ditch on a west south-west to east north-east alignment. This was 0.65m wide and 0.4m deep and contained a sherd of post-medieval pottery.

{3} Excavation of the area of a balancing pond for the A43 Moulton Bypass was undertaken in 2016-7. The pair of parallel ditches observed in earlier phases of evaluation were excavated. Three sherds of pottery were found in the fill of one of the ditches but were considered likely to be residual. No date was provided for the pottery.
