Full Description

{1} Wellingborough Motor Omnibus Company was formed in May 1913, later became United Counties Road Transport Company 8 years later. Head office was originally in Finedon Road Irthlingborough (until it moved to Bedford Road, Northampton). The Irthlingborough premises were taken over by Eastern Coachworks then British Road Services and is currently Homeseeker Park Homes (Caravan Builders).

{2} Wellingborough Motor Omnibus Co. Bus Garage. Opened in 1914, extended 1919-20, and again 1929-1930. Let to Eastern Coach Works in May 1940 and sold to that company in 1941. Subsequently sold to British Road Services who used it as a repair depot until c.1970. Now used by a company building mobile homes. No information on appearance.

{6} In 1913 an omnibus depot was built in the central part of the site over the former quarry and lime kiln. This was expanded several times between 1919 and 1932. In 1933 it was taken over by Eastern Coachworks and later on the British Road Services. Post-war maps from 1964 onwards show further extensions to the depot with the area to the north and west being developed as hard standing or parking. The existing buildings have recently been occupied by Homeseeker Park Homes.
