Full Description

{1} Geophysical survey identified a group of clearly defined archaeological features including ditched enclosures with associated hut circles or roundhouses. Other fragmentary linear markings may be traces of a (possibly related) field system. The features probably represent Iron Age or Romano-British settlement.

{2} Archaeological evaluation confirmed the Iron Age date of the features identified during the geophysical survey and also proved that the archaeology of the settlement was more complex than expected, representing several phases of overlapping settlement activity. The circular ditched features at the southern end were more substantial than those to the north, possibly suggesting they were small enclosures rather than roundhouses. A 'long blade' of Upper Palaeolithic character was recovered from the fill of one of the Iron Age features.
