Please read our .

Summary

The stone-built coach house and stable block stands c. 24 m ENE of the farmhouse and c. 14m SE of the agricultural complex. It is a rectangular structure (19.5 x 6 m) composed of four discrete bays: two sets of stables, a tack room and a coach house. The building has an eaves height of c. 4 m and a ridge height of c.5.9 m. In 1846, the block formed the base of a U-shape courtyard layout with the arms of the U projecting to the SW. By 1885, the building had undergone substantial alteration, the SW arms and courtyard demolished, along with a structure with a mono-pitched roof, that was attached to the SE end of the block. 5.3 Apart from the stone shell, there is little identifiable of the original building. The front elevation reveals an earlier phase of extending to the SE, in the form of an abutment against quoin stones. The rear wall also has scar traces of a former SW arm and blocked doorways. The post-1846 revamp included: the addition of doors and windows openings with brick jambs and reveals: a hipped slated roof; a brick cornice along three sides; and a brick fire breast and stack in the tack room.
