Summary

Archaeological trial trench excavation undertaken in 1997 identified a single undated pit. The fill contained frequent pieces of slag and it may be associated with the Roman furnace found just to the east.

Full Description

{1} Archaeological trial trench excavation was undertaken in 1997 ahead of the construction of a replacement water trunck main between Duddington and Chesterton (west of Peterborough). A series of trial trenches were excavated on land between the A43 south of Duddington and The Assarts. Only a single feature, an undated pit, was identified. The pit contained frequent pieces of slag and may be associated with the Roman furnace found some 50m to the east.
