Full Description

{1} Mound (SP 794602) in the north of the parish close to the River Nene, on alluvium at 52 m above OD. An oval mound, 10 m by 15 m and 1 m high, is still visible. A few morked flints have been found on it. A resistivity survey carried out in 1974, followed by a magnetometer survey and augering, suggested that the mound was natural, but the existence of similar mounds in the same area, one of which was proved to be a Bronze Age barrow, may be of significance.

{3} Oval mound south of Weston Mill, c 80yds by 60yds. Worked flints found on surface. SP 792602 quoted.

{7} Magnetometer survey in 1974 appears only to have identified a broad geological feature, possibly a sand bank formed by an ancient river. No final plan was prepared on the basis that no archaeological features were identified. The letter stresses that the absence of archaeology does not necessarily rule out its existence here.

{8} (SP 79396028) Circular crop mark seen from the air by R Hollowell in 1967. [Probably the same feature as the mound].

{9} Site under plough. No visible remains, nothing found on the ground.

{10} Although listed under Great Houghton the grid reference given by authority {1} locates the site to just inside Little Houghton parish, adjacent to and possibly a duplication of another circular feature SP 76 SE 28.
