Full Description
{1} Ironstone foundations of the side walls of a building. The front wall would have lain under the modern road. The building had been terraced into the slope. A number of stake- and small post-holes suggest initial internal subdivision. A sherd of 15th/16th century pottery was recovered from one of these. There had been a later subdivision in stone and a series of floors later laid down contained 19th century material. A dearth of medieval pottery beneath the building may indicate that it was the first building on site. The remains lie within the area of a building shown at the front of plot 133 on the Inclosure map of Daventry of 1803. The plot was at the time owned by William Judkins.
