Full Description
{1}Medieval well - the earliest reference to Goldwell is from 1170-80 when tenements are referred to in Goldwell Lane and 1180-90 when 2.5 acres of land are recorded in Goldwell Furlong. Leland records the Goldwell Stream. The well is clearly mapped on the 1st edition OS 25" survey as "Golden Spring"
.{2}In addition to St. Rumbold’s and Goldwell, in the Old Town, there were three other major wells: Linch well which rose at the back of the town and ran into Castle Close, the Burwell which lay at the north end of Brackley and there was another well in the market place.
There had been various furlongs in this area between the Old and the New towns. For example in 1180-90 there were two and a half acres in this area in Goldwell furlong; again in 1220 a grant of ‘Inlanda’ near Goldewell furlong;
