Summary

Probable World War II type 24 pillbox of a variant form. Hexagonal with brick walls and concrete roof and what appears to be an earth floor. Within hedgerow on the north perimeter of Brigstock Camp, approx. 120 metres north of the main buildings.

Full Description

{1}Pillbox similar to the Type 22 design located within the hedgerow on northern perimeter of the site approx 120metres north of the main buildings.

{2} The best surviving of the three pillboxes on site was chosen for detailed survey. Hexagonal in plan, constructed from brick and concrete. No internal fixtures remained. Plans and photographs.

{4} Probable type 24 pillbox of a variant form. Hexagonal with brick walls and concrete roof and what appears to be an earth floor. Central brick square pillar/anti-ricochet wall. Embrasures to five sides, with concrete lintel over and internal concrete shelf. Entrance comprises a low rectangular opening, with above, and to both sides a small (rifle) embrasure. No blast wall at entrance.
