Full Description
{1} Village of Ringstead has complicated manorial history - tenants fell under duchy court of Raunds, Gloucester court at Denford or Gloucester manor of Furnells in Raunds. The village itself is absent from Domesday book, despite possible Saxon origin.Street pattern of core of village little changed from Eyres map of 1780 and Bryant's County map of 1830. 1841 Inclosure Map suggests village may have been divided into two with possible green in the middle. Road pattern around village now greatly simplified.Evidence for medieval occupation appears to have been confined to area of present village with perhaps additional development to the north. Evidence from observation of building works at Back Lane and High Street (which failed to reveal any pre nineteenth century finds or features) suggest medieval village was perhaps less densely occupied than its modern successor.
