Summary
Cotton End is situated to the south of the town and was one of the medieval suburbs. It became an early industrial focus for the town in the 18th century, initially when the Nene was mde navigable in 1761. Thereafter, the first link with the canal system, a railed way from Blisworth, was opened in 1805, with the Northampton Branch of the canal opening in 1815. The first railway station opened in 1845 and a goods yard, to the east of Bridge Street, was opened in 1866.
