Abstract/Summary

Fieldwalking and geophsical surveys were carried out by Northamptonshire Archaeology during February 2004, along the proposed route of the A509 Isham bypass, Northamptonshire. The fieldwalking survey resulted in the recovery of flint artefacts, and sherds of Roman, Saxon and medieval pottery. The scaters of prehistoric, Roman and medieval material are at a low level and are probably a result of casual losses and manuring of arable land. The results of geophysical reconnaissance and detailed survey found concentrations of likely archaeological features in similar locations to those suggested by aerial photographic plots held by the SMR. These comprised occassional pits, ditches and a possible kiln. Few significant anomalies were detected along the line of the bypass.
